How Does Chiropractic Care Work?

Chiropractic care involves a chiropractor making adjustments to the spine (Spinal Manipulation). The theory this is based on, revolves around the nervous system. The spine contains the spinal cord and is the major section in your nervous system. Your spine also contains vertebrae and discs. The vertebrae is the bone and the spinal (Intervertebral) disc is a cartilaginous joint, a section that can bend and squeeze and allows movement in your spine.

If the vertebrae comes out of alignment, there is a strong chance it can disrupt the nervous system leading to any number of health problems depending on where the misalignment is. Restoring the vertebrae to it’s proper alignment will restore the nervous system and help your body function normally again.

When your child is growing they will be testing their body each day and will have likely misaligned their spine. Having regular adjustments to ensure everything is functioning normally will help your child grow and perform at their optimum level.

How Do I Choose The Right Chiropractor?

Choosing the right chiropractor is the most important step you can take. The chiropractor is manipulating your spine and you need to be sure you can trust them. The best way to choose is based on a recommendation from a friend. Also ensure that your chiropractic is qualified by an industry and state/country recognized qualification. Chiropractors are health care professionals and need to abide by guidelines. This will vary from country to country.

Is It Safe For Babies?

It is just as safe for babies as it is for adults. When a chiropractor makes an adjustment on a baby or child, they don’t use the large amounts of force that they do on adults. They either use very light finger tip pressure, or use a device called an activator.

How Often Do They Need To Go?

As a child they normally haven’t had the time to pick up bad habits and create many problems in the spine at a young age. Your chiropractor will recommend the best period, but once a month is known to be a good time frame between adjustments. Adults and children continuously bump and bend in ways we are not meant to, so getting adjusted regularly is recommended.

Will It Hurt?

Generally there will be no pain at all. Your child will most likely just be startled by the adjustments. While they are young they can either be adjusted just sitting down or while you hold them.

What Problems Can Chiropractic Solve?

There are many claims as to what chiropractic can solve. Some of them have been proven, while others are still undergoing studies. Some examples include:

  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Low Energy
  • Menstrual pains
  • Ear Infection
  • Asthma
  • Digestive Problems
  • And many more

As previously discussed, it is about restoring the nervous system to it’s full capacity, so the body can function normally. Chiropractic is about ensuring optimal health and wellness.
